Workouts Matter Interview #1

I believe every small business owner has a story that can inspire others to go after what they want in life and business. Today I'll be interviewing Felix and Bailey from Workouts Matter to find out what inspires them and their business.

What motivated you to start your very own business ?

After completing our education, we both found that we didn't want to go to university. Instead we were interested in going into business for two reasons. First off, we both wanted to be independent, and have a job that we were fully responsible for. Second of all, we wanted to have a career we could consistently grow, and eventually reach thousands of people.

How long had you been thinking about starting ?

We actually planned to start in June of 2018 and started planning in January of 2018, but troubles with setting up the business account coupled with troubles registering the business (We're newbies to this so we weren't so good at all the legal stuff) meant that our site didn't get published until January of 2019.

What is your business all about ?

WorkoutsMatter is currently a blog/store that focuses on HIIT, which is a relatively new form of exercise that i'm a big fan of. We also write on nutrition, which was something I wanted to focus on because of the sheer number of myths in the industry. At our store we sell a small number of products that I have personally picked from hundreds as the best of the best. Initially we thought we would have a lot more in our store, but there's so much junk out there that we actually only have about 12 products atm! The good thing is that we know they're good products, however.

Where is your business located?

We're both from Thanet in the UK, and we meet up from time to time when we have to develop the site together, but really it's located on the internet. We don't have any brick and mortar stores!

How is life now you're a business owner ?

Unsurprisingly, quite stressful. We're getting great feedback from our fans and customers and we're growing well, but there's all the classic struggles. We certainly both prefer it to being in education, however. The feeling when we made our first few sales was indescribable.

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start a business ?

I'd say that the most applicable advice, cliché as it is, is 'don't give up'. When you're running a business, especially when it's not going as well as you think it should be, it can be really tough. Some extra pieces of advice would be:

  1. A) Keep learning, and never stop
  2. B) Try out a lot of things to see what works for you
  3. C) Work on your business as much as you can
  4. D) Do something good. Don't sell crappy products or write copy and pasted articles. Do something that provides value.

Anything else you would like to share ?

I'd like to thank inspiressmallbusinesses for featuring us, especially so early on our journey as entrepreneurs. I'd also like to state for anyone interested in fitness and nutrition, to really learn about the subject. Even if you don't read our blog, there's a lot of misinformation out there and it's easy to get duped.

Clayton's Final Thoughts

I love workouts matter blog posts. They add great value if you're wanting to get fit. I enjoyed the blog post about push-ups coming from someone who loves getting down and doing push-ups this added some great value to my life.

I'd like to take this time to thank Felix and Bailey on taking the time to feature in my new blog serious. Business is hard work and with the right inspiration anyone can go after their dreams just like Felix and Bailey.

I'd also love to hear your thoughts below.
